This Thursday Amokian Masheeen on internet radio!

This Thursday, from 11pm to 1am on Kill Radio Amokian Masheeen will take to the net-waves (not air-waves as this is net radio.

This set is a collaboration with Igor Amokian, phog masheeen and Ustad Morelock. Igor Amokian is a legendary circuit bender and Groove Agent. A veteran of beatbox battles and an impresario of beat related events. Ustad is the host of Dung Mummy Radio and formidable force on guitar synth.

For this event I broke out the groove box and built three programs for the event, Lower Level, On the Bubble and Steel Cut. I don't know if I will get to use any of them, but it is good to be prepared.

What else do you have going between 11pm and 1am on a Thursday night? And you can join the chat at the Kill Radio page.

Phog masheeen also opened last weekend's Santa Ana Noise Fest #5. On this occasion we were Joined by Craig Sibley who performed on a variety of instruments. Most notably his "Chicken-phone."

Here is Craig's description of the "Chicken-phone."

The history of the Chicken-Phone goes back to when I lived in Fullerton, where we had a large yard behind the house complete with a chicken coop. One day while cleaning up the yard, I set a tomato trellis on top of a chicken "nesting box". I tossed a brick over where it hit the box and trellis and it made the most remarkable sound. I promptly took the objects into the garage, added some guitar strings and immediately fell in love with the instrument, where I used it on a variety of projects including a sound track on a film called "Menagerie" (complete with chicken poop and everything). Since then, I have built a nice version of the instrument (without poop) and love the thing! It has a bass string, and a guitar string, can be struck with drum sticks, plucked or bowed for some very strange and wonderful sounds!

Look for the recording of SANF5 to be up soon! With Chicken-phone and Dr. Kaplan's signature percussion.http://tiforg.bandcamp.com/track/smash-it-up-the-damned

Here's a thread on the production of ShoutLand from FaceBook. Sorry about the lack of word-wrap.

Mark A. Soden Jr. Thanks Tim! We are ramping up for the new CD ShoutLand.

Tim Mungenast I wanna know all about it!

Mark A. Soden Jr. Ok, Here's the link to the back story http://phogmasheeen.blogspot.com/p/shoutland-back-story.html

phog masheeen: ShoutLand Back Story....phogmasheeen.blogspot.com

Mark A. Soden Jr. The tracks were built from live recordings, rehearsals and studio work. The Sonorium performance is in there. I continued the the use of actors as vocalists. Focusing on character rather than singing. Thomas Dimuzio did a brilliant job of mastering. Bill Almas has produced an outstanding cover for the CD that ties in the "buzzing like cicadas" phrase and Vanessa LeFevre's cicada recordings are in there too! These recordings are how I spent my summer...

Mark A. Soden Jr. Bill did a trailer for an early mix of "I Want To Take a Shower." Lisa Black added a genius vocal to that. She developed a voice for the character Agatha that just says "homeless with a taste for drugs." That video is here http://youtu.be/7QsDQ6t9EcI

Mark A. Soden Jr. The first trailer is here: http://youtu.be/h6LCTKv3LGo Bobby Almon voiced this intro to the world of shoutland in a tone that evokes the voice of a weary crime reporter, laying out the facts.

The great work is under way for ShoutLand, The next phog masheeen CD.

Guitar Legend Matt Chait dials it in for a festive morning of recording at the Coastal Lair.
Work is thundering ahead on the follow up CD to The Eternal Battle of Heat and Cold. Titled ShoutLand this is a group of songs with a downtown noir vibe. Based on current events in downtown Long Beach California.

The tracks feature performances by phog masheeen stalwarts Dr. Kaplan and Eric Strauss as well as guest performances by Lisa Black and Matt Chait.

More guests are on the way.

You will know about it here first!
